Whether it actually glows in the dark or under UV light comes down to the dye used, and only a handful of our colours are made with that specific fluorescent or phosphorescent dye.
The difference between Neon, Blacklight Reactive, Glow in the Dark and Reflective
These four terms get used interchangeably online, but they describe completely different physics. Mixing them up is the most common reason people buy the wrong cord for a blacklight project.
What are neon colours?
Classifying a colour as 'neon' simply means that it is vivid and bright. While all fluorescent colours are neon, not all neon colours are fluorescent.
Blacklight reactive (fluorescent)
The fluorescent dye in the cord absorbs invisible UV light and instantly re-emits it as a bright, visible glow. This only happens while the blacklight is actually pointed at the cord. Switch the UV lamp off and the glow stops immediately, there's no afterglow. This is the effect people usually mean when they want a neon paracord that glows.

Glow in the dark (phosphorescent)
The phosphorescent material charges up under ordinary light, daylight or a lamp, and then slowly releases that stored energy as a dim glow in genuine darkness. If you want cord that lights up on its own after dark with no UV lamp involved, this is the range to use instead of the blacklight reactive fluorescent colours.

Reflective
Reflective tracers woven into the cord bounce back light that's shone directly at them, like a torch or a car headlight, day or night. There's no fluorescence and no self-charging involved, it simply reflects whatever hits it. The full range, including the 50 percent reflective Super Reflectable cord, is worth a look if visibility to oncoming light is what you actually need rather than a UV glow.

What to make with blacklight reactive Paracord
Blacklight reactive cord earns its keep anywhere UV lighting is already part of the setup:
- Festival and rave accessories, from bracelets to lanyards, that lights up under the venue's blacklights
- Night-time dog collars and leashes for owners who walk with a UV torch
- Glow tent guide-lines and camp markers for events that run their own blacklight zones

- Costume and cosplay detailing that only reveals itself under stage lighting
